What is the difference between men's and women's adult protection?
Aside from the size, which follows male or female anatomy, women's products and men's products are fairly similar. The shape near the genitals does differ. Shaped pads are geared more toward women (though many shaped pads are made for men), while men can turn to a product line called: Guards.
To see how the options differ, take a look at our guide to choosing bladder protection for men or women with incontinence.
How does incontinence differ for men and women?
How common it is
Studies report different numbers, and the overall picture is consistent. Incontinence affects 10 to 20% of women before age 65. In men it is much less common before 65. The numbers rise with age. After age 80, more than 40% of men are estimated to have incontinence, and the figures are higher still for women.
Risk factors for men and women
For men and women alike, age and obesity raise the chance of incontinence. For men, the risk of leaks can also rise with an enlarged prostate or prostate surgery. For women, pregnancy, childbirth, vaginal prolapse, and urinary tract infections can be risk factors.
Treatment for urinary incontinence in men and women
Men and women can both use medication, and sometimes surgery, to limit incontinence. For men, emptying the bladder on a regular schedule is strongly recommended. For women, pelvic floor exercises can help. To live more comfortably with light incontinence, moderate incontinence and severe incontinence, men's and women's bladder products are available on the Tous Ergo site.
How can urinary products be reimbursed? Are adult briefs covered?
Incontinence products are generally not reimbursed by French Social Security or bynational health insurance. In some cases, grants and other help can cover the cost, especially with a serious disabling illness. We explain it in this article:
On returns, Tous Ergo does not refund incontinence hygiene products for women or men unless the carton or pack is unopened.
What do people call an adult brief? (pull-ups, underwear, senior protection...)
An adult brief is also called absorbent underwear or incontinence protection. There are several kinds, including disposable underwear, pull-ups, and washable, reusable protection. Adult briefs are often used by people with urinary or bowel incontinence, people who have trouble using the toilet, and people whose medical condition keeps them from controlling elimination.
How do you choose full protection for an adult or a senior?
Know your incontinence level and your size. For products such as adult briefs, waist measurement is the usual guide, so you do not end up with something too small or too large to work. If you do not know your level, your primary doctor can help. If you are unsure which style to choose (pull-ups, underwear, or briefs), ask your doctor or your pharmacist.
Where can you buy adult briefs?
You will find a wide range of incontinence products on the Tous Ergo site, in the incontinence category. The selection covers hygiene products for children, adults, and seniors, in a full range of sizes: pull-ups, underwear, briefs, tab-style briefs, absorbent underwear, guards, and more.
You can also shop all of our incontinence products in multi-pack bundles. Bundles lower the price and give you peace of mind, so you do not run out of the protection you prefer.
Try before you buy: free samples
It is always better to try a product first, even with the best advice. You can order up to 3 samples at no charge and see which incontinence product matches your leak level and your build.
